You can set a screen up to have 9 boxes, and the rule of thirds is when the focus of your picture is in the 3 boxes on the side. In my first picture the focus is Mattie. In the second picture the focus is on the tree, and the pumpkin. In the third picture the focus is on the cherrios lid. The rule of thirds is used to draw your focus to something other than the center of the picture.
